Sometimes she melts my heart

Tonight as I was putting Clair to bed there was heavy rain all of the sudden outside. She proceeded to act a bit scared and started to ask what happens if the thunder shakes her bit. I told her it wouldn’t happen. She said it might. She said it happened once before and she had to run to me and have me hold her.

She then asked me, “Mommy, do you know where I feel safest? “

I said tell me where Claire.

She responded with, “in your arms snuggling  mommy. “

I love the innocence and the honesty that she shares with me sometimes.

Clair’s writing

I was going through Clair’s school folder this evening and found two items I wanted to remember.

Love reading her view of her birthday highlights.

Also, found a Mother’s Day gift that was a day late and made me smile. My girl knows me!

Ellie’s eighth grade formal

Tonight Ellie celebrated the eighth grade formal. I remember when we had our eighth grade formal at Newmarket middle school a long long time ago.

We’ve been preparing for this event for a couple months now. She managed the preparations all in stride. Once we found the dress she was happy to watch it all come together.

Ellie looked gorgeous in the outfit she put together and she had a great time with her friends. I’m so happy for her and that she enjoyed this dance and her time with friends.

I chauffeured heard her And two friends to and from the dance. They had snacks and a photo booth and a DJ who only played fast songs and stars with their names on it. They had fun hanging out. It was a bustling place.

I can’t believe how grown up my baby is and that she’s going off to high school next year.

I’m gonna miss this right?

Most nights when I go into my bathroom to get a shower this is the scene I find:

She’s been told well over a couple hundred times to put her dirty clothes in the hamper with the other dirty clothes. It never happens without being asked to handle it multiple times. Each time I see it it frustrates me. I also try to remember that she won’t be like this for long. I know time flies. One minute they’re cute little kids and the next third going into high school and soon after that off to college into the world themselves. I can’t really imagine what life will be like when they fly. I know they will and I know they will do great things. Meanwhile, I’ll try to remember they won’t be like this for long.

“ It won't be like this for long
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
Yeah, this phase is gonna fly by
So, he's tryin' to hold on
'Cause it won't be like this for long
It won't be like this for long“

NMES art show

Every year at the end of the school year the elementary school does a fund raiser - The Art Show. The kids make special artwork that goes on display for the families who are asked to buy their framed artwork as a fundraiser for the school.

The kids absolutely love this event. We’ve tried to go as often as possible but sometimes spring sports prevent it.

My agreement was to buy the art kindergarten for each and then display it in the family room. All the other years we wait for the art work to come home at the end of the year.

Over the years the artwork they have made are wonderful and I love every one of them.

This year was the first year in three years due to Covid. So it was even more exciting to Clair who has missed so much of the elementary school fun. I really wanted to go with her but the schedule was challenging.

We managed to roll in 5 minutes before the end to see her work. And, the sucker I am, I even bought it this year. It’s really wonderful. She showed great detail and was best in class compared to her peers :)

Love my girl and love her joy for all things school. She even asked if she could help the teachers clean up. She’s seeet.

Clair soccer skills are growing

The past couple years Clair has played soccer for one season and softball for another. The spring I am seeing her really take to the game. She has wanted to participate in every event even the extra ones. She is enjoying practicing at home with her brother. She knows all the moves. She doesn’t give up when she was in the game.

This past Saturday instead of regular games they had a series of street soccer games. This was eight short eight minute games where they played on different teams each time. Awards were given at the end for individuals who had accumulated the most goals. The clair didn’t win, I was so very proud of how hard she worked and how she stuck to it until the very end of the very last game. All the girls were tired after about three or four games. You could see their paces slow down. Claire have one game where she rested a bit as a defender by the goal, but otherwise she was really running.

I really enjoyed listening to her try to encourage and direct her team at times during this event as well. She also scored two goals on Saturday. I’m so proud of her.

After the event her coach took everyone out for frozen yogurt. What a fun day!

Ellie‘s artistic talents

Ellie has always been drawn to art and she does a really nice job creating art. She draws, she paints, she makes things out of clay, and she has a lot of theater though not really demonstrated on the stage.

Ellie has taken theater two out of her three years at middle school. For the first time she is participating in a play at the close of her eighth grade year. She is a wolf in this play. One of her extra contributions was to get to draw the cover of the advertisement they are using.

I am proud of her for doing this extra initiative and I enjoy seeing the happiness in her smile as she talks about this contribution she’s made. Here’s a copy of what she’s drawn.

And here’s a picture of her after getting her first professional haircut in years. She wanted curtain bangs and got them. She is gorgeous.
