This girl

Leaning forward on my seat in the car Clair proclaims our id the blue after striking a pose, “Mommy, this is how I want to get my picture taken.”

So of course I oblige.

Then, we take a few together. Love these.

Watching the Hokies play

I haven’t decided if it’s because I still limit TV or they really do enjoy hanging out and cheering for my team with me, but all three kids really seem to enjoy watching the aholies play on TV and cheering them on. This makes me happy!

A sure thing

Ellie is a busy girl, she’s also not fast at many things. But if I tell her I’m leaving the house, she’s quite quick and sly about waiting for me at the back door to ensure she is the last one to give me a hug before I go. This is how I found her when we were on our way out the door for a date night on Saturday this week. Isn’t she cute.

Another softball season begins

This will be Ellie’s eighth season playing softball. She’s been playing since she was almost 7. I’ve been coaching her for most of this time. I never realized what a great journey this would be. I love watching Eli play and seeing her skills grow. I also have the most relaxing times of the week on the field with the girls hitting them balls and teaching them the game.

This season as we rolled into the park for the first time, Ellie took the gear with her. I am proud of her for helping me out. She may have been most interested in pulling the wagon, but nonetheless she took the equipment to the field. She’s growing up so fast.

Max gets character count

In January, Max is third grade class nominated him for character counts. His teacher decided to put him out for being respectful. I was so pleased for him receiving this honor. This boy has such an amazing heart and it is so awesome for his classmates and teacher to recognize him for it. We enjoyed a lunch of chicken nuggets in his honor during the Ceremony which actually didn’t happen until the end of February because there was snow during the week in January where we were supposed to celebrate.

Do you ever stop thinking?

The other day while Clair is taking her shower, she is telling me a story after story after story. She hasn’t quite mastered taking a shower and it really does require concentration for her to take a shower and clean her body. So I asked her to pause her story, stop talking, and focus all her efforts on cleaning her body and making sure she makes soap suds everywhere. She looked at me funny, and then did what I asked.

After she got out of the shower I asked her if she ever stops thinking or if her brain is always thinking about something. She looked at me funny and said no, I’m always thinking about something. I laughed.

I told her a story about how her daddy used to try to find my off switch when I was thinking too much. I told her that he would reach around behind the back of my head and push as if he was looking for the magic button to make mommy stop thinking and just be in the moment. Clair looked at me so confused as if the concept is so ridiculous that she just laughed.

This girl, I love her so!

I want to be a professional soccer player

If you weeks ago as we started to talk about spring sports and Max confirmed he wanted to play soccer, he confided in me and told me that he wants to be a professional soccer player when he grows up. This was one of the reasons he gave me for wanting to move to a new club to play in this year. He’s convinced he has a better chance if he plays at the good club.

I love my boy and I love that he thought about this himself. So of course, we paid triple the money and signed them up. After two practices I can see a difference in terms of the way the coaching happens. He will definitely also need to put in a lot of hard work to make this dream come true.

I’ve decided that every little boy should have a phase in their life when they’re growing up where they’re focused on being a professional athlete. I’m happy to see the energy and max around this phase.

We have a reader and she loves Mo Williams!

Before Clair could leave for school today she grabbed her library book, curled up on the coach, and announced she needed to read her favorite library book again before returning it. She assumed this position and read the whole story to herself out loud, laughing at it, doing the voices and truly enjoying herself.

I’m amazed to see this kind of skill at this age. She has learned so much this year. Thanks to her wonderful teacher Mrs White!

Looking forward to her birthday

Clair knows what day if the week her birthday is next month, because she remembers she was in dance for her birthday last year and that was a Monday.

I was surprised when I checked and she was right. I really should stop being surprised when she is always right about things.

She’s also made a party planning list which she is quite proud of!
