Birthday Bash

Today’s party for Max and Clair went very well. It started out with a little bit of rain and we were worried would happen. But the rain passed, and while it rained thankfully there was no thunder, so the kids swim. The adults hung out under the umbrella and chatted.

It was about a three hour party. It was a lot of swimming. There was a shark piñata. There was decorating your piñata bags. And there was playing with water toys. There were also plenty of junk food snacks and two types of cupcakes. Max and Clair each got to invite three friends. My mom dad and Tyler came. A couple moms hung out which I was really grateful for. And Robert and Colleen came with the kids. It was a really great mix.

Everybody got at least one attempt to hit the piñata. That shark lasted a long time because when he busted out but only a little bit of candy would fall out. That meant they kept getting a chance to hit it.

Fall rec sports have started

Although school is virtual, we made the choice to let each child play a wreck sport this fall. It’s more important than ever that they get some time socializing with other kids.

Ellie is playing softball and actually started Rec softball this summer after I decided to end the travel stuff during Covid. It’s been going quite well. In fact, yesterday evening she had her first ball out to the warning track in the outfield. She and I were both very proud of her.

Max is playing 11 U rec soccer. We moved from travel to rec this year hoping it was a better fit for his level of interest. He seems to be enjoying it! I have not seen any practices because David has been taking him, but he told me tonight he scored seven goals during practice. He seems really happy with it.

Claire started it you soccer tonight. She really had mixed opinions about it. This week she told me she didn’t like soccer and she didn’t want to play. But I told her it was too late and she was going. She decided to approach this evening with an open mind. I’m so proud of her for that because she really had a good time. She ran hard, she played great, she was a good teammate who wanted to high-five everyone (despite covid and the new rules her mamma forgot to tell her about), she learned two girls names, and she scored a couple goals! I managed a few pictures from tonight since I don’t coach soccer.

And score!!!

A favorite breakfast

Over the past year 3 of us - Max, Clair and Mommy- have grown to have a favorite and pretty healthy breakfast - Blueberries and Cherries with Milk! On mornings that I have fresh delicious berries everyone seeks happy!

How long this will last, no one knows. And for now, I love these happy mornings!

Playing together

One Sunday afternoon I was tired and I was home alone with Max and Clair. I asked them if they would play nicely for an hour while I have a nap. These two not only played nicely together but they were super creative. They created a whole city out of all the different blocks that we have in the play room and I was really impressed with it. They had a story for each little building. And they weren’t fighting! The best thing with the way they work together to build this massive set up. I ended up leaving it set up in the living room for a week and every time I walked by I secretly admired how well they played together.

It should be noted that Max and Clair actually do a great job of playing together quite often.

The new soccer club was a success for all

The decision to let Max and Clair play for FC Frederick this spring turned out to be very beneficial. Their program is very focused on learning in a particular way. I saw so much progress on both of them this spring. They both enjoyed their coaches and their teams.

Max played his last game last Saturday. His team won most of their games and Max really came along with both his offense and his defense. Max played on a big field this season. I never felt I was close enough to really good pictures. The highlight for him was winning the award at the street soccer tournament mid season. I’m so proud of him.

Clair had her last seven games this Saturday. I was there so I got a few pictures.
