Caught out of bed

As I got out of the shower tonight, David was coming up the stairs because he heard one of the toys in the kids rooms making noise. It only took me a second to realize it likely meant Max had crawled out of bed to try his toys instead of sleeping.

David opened the door and we found Max sitting on the floor by his toys, hand in the basket, Spots on his lap. I looked at him and said "Max John Cummings you get back in that bed right now."

He stood up and quickly crawled into his bed, buried his head and began crying, "Mommy!" (Staring at me and mouth wide open crying loudly in his typical tantrum position and demeanor.)

Max really doesn't like me being upset with him. He also doesn't like being caught. I feel bad that he is sad, but I also needed to make sure he knew playing after bedtime isn't allowed. I told him I was mad and I loved him. I explained that when Mommy puts him in bed, he's to stay in bed and go to sleep. He gave him a hug.

His response while crying still, "Wrong way!" (Meaning he was upset that he was laying on his stomach as I tucked him in because I always put him to sleep on his back.) I laughed and told him that he could roll over. I then tucked him back into  bed and told him night night. I love him so much!

He settled down and went to sleep pretty quickly. I wonder if he learned from this or not. Time will tell.
