This evening we went down to the park and Ellie was trying to perfect her trick - jumping to grab on to the monkey bars. Usually she does this on the 2nd ring, today she was focused on the third. She was very proud she had done it several times in a row. All of the sudden, she missed once and fell face first.
Poor thing, was scared and started crying instantly. Her face was scratched up pretty bad. We held her and gave her hugs to help her calm down. She pulled herself together pretty quickly and walked home. We were enjoying the walk home and even watching butterflies. She remembered the pain and the red marks were starting to come through on her face.
She was distracted from the fall by the visit of her friend for about 15 minutes. She was a very tough girl. I'm proud of her. She did say tonight she would NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. I encouraged her not to say never, but to think about how she can have fun and be brave and assure she falls on her feet.
I looked at her in the mirror tonight as we were putting medicine on her and getting her teeth brushed. This is definitely the first time my little girl has really had bumps and cuts show through on her beautiful face. I think her and I were probably thinking the same thing. No doubt she'll heal very quickly.
