After a summer with Grannie and the early days with Gramma, Max started real daycare on Monday. At 13.5 months, started going to Ms. Sara's in home daycare where Ellie has been going to since January. I trust Ms. Sara like family, but it's still hard for me to see him take this milestone. I thought for sure he would cry when I left, since he seems to cry at home when I leave the room.
When we arrived Monday morning Max was so excited to get down and explore, he barely knew I was leaving. Ellie was more interested in giving me a good bye hug then Max. I puttered around for about 10 minutes and walked out with Max smiling as Ms. Sara carried him down the stairs.
The day at work felt long and I was ready to get back to pick them up. I got a few text indicating things were great. Apparently he slept like a champ, drank his bottles, ate his lunch and was generally well behaved.
When I arrived to get him he was sitting in Ms. Sara's lap getting his shoes on. As Ellie screamed "No" upon seeing me, I did get a welcome home smile from Max. He was happy to see me, but also happy to go right back to playing. He really had a great day.
Even at night, once we got home, he was in such a pleasant mood. I think he must really like the new environment and getting to play with the other kids. He's a natural. There haven't been any tears except for a few when he is put down to sleep (and of course when he apparently bumps into a wall and bruises his cheek) but otherwise, he's a pro already!
Tonight at dinner I was looking at him, with his little beat up face. He smiled at me with such a happy look. He looked older and wiser after just two days. He's growing up so quickly. It's hard to believe how time flies.
Ellie said she was excited to have Max going to Sara's with her. I hope that they do appreciate having this time together. However, if they are like other siblings, they will of course take it for granted and not appreciate it - just like I would have.
