Right now I'm watching Ellie try a racing game. It's scarey and funny all the same. I sure wouldn't I've her my keys, but watching her constantly move her arms back and forth with a constant smile on her face is really funny. She has a whole lot of energy.

Trying new things
Today was a good day. Max ate a little bit of chicken tender at dinner. He did this knowing it was his only was to desert. For some reason that threat worked today as it doesn't always.
Max is also learning to ask to go potty sometimes. Not always, but sometimes.
He's my big boy!

Have a picnic
Max has taken to asking me to sit down with him on the floor while he drinks to "have a picnic." We did this once a couple weeks ago and he seems to have really enjoyed that time. So now, it happens at least once a day. He always asks me to get some water and drink with him. It's really cute. I like that he wants me to sit with him. Although, I still can't get a kiss :-)
Christmas Break
I have 2 weeks off over the holidays this year. I feel like we haven't done anything special with this time. I've been using it to relax and catch up on sleep and just be with the kids as much as I can. I feel like the time is flying, but we are enjoying being home together. We have 4 more days together and although that it a lot, I feel like it's coming to an end. That makes me sad. I sure wish I didn't have to go back to work. I love being home with the kids all the time.
Sleep In Ellie's Room
Max and Ellie and both so excited to sleep together in Ellie's room. It's funny. They get so excited and even wanted to do it during naptime. They are still struggling to get themselves to sleep.
When they wake up in the mornings, the noise and energy takes off like a rocket. They played together in there this morning for nearly 45 minutes before even bothering to come see me. It's cute seeing them enjoy each other so much.
I have to admit seeing them grow up and need me less is a little sad, but seeing them grow closer and enjoy each other does make me very happy. I hope we can find a good way to make this transition successful. I'm glad we started it over break where I can be more flexible with schedules and sleep.

Night One
It took the kids until nearly 11pm to fall asleep. They were exhausted this morning. Max seemed to take it better then Ellie. He looked forward to his nap and took a good 3 hour nap.
We are trying again tonight. It's been an hour and I'm still hearing some noises. Here's hoping!

An experiment - Max in a big boy bed tonight
It's been a while since I've written. We've been enjoying the holidays. I'm home from work for 2 weeks and trying to do a lot of resting. I also had some plans for helping Max prepare for the new baby while I was home. Major goal was potty training. That hasn't honestly been going to well. Max doesn't seem to care when he pees in his pants. The only time he uses the toilet is when we make him do it. Not sure how this is going to improve anytime soon. We will see.
I did decide to try Max out in the extra twin bed in Ellie's room. Tonight we decorated Max side of the room with his new vehicle stickers. We put the new big boy sheets and blanket onto Max's bed. He was pretty excited about getting into bed. We put them to bed a bit late. They shared a story with Daddy. Then we shared prayers and songs with Mommy. Then I tucked them in with instructions they could talk for a few minutes. I left.
About 10 minutes later, after listening to them sing to each other and talk to each other, I went in to tell them it was time to go to sleep. They didn't argue. They needed more hugs and kisses, and a little TLC, but I left without tears.
It's been about an hour and a half and at least one is still awake up there. I've been listening and hoping. I know I need to be patient. This is hard for me, because I hate for them to be missing sleep. I think this is harder for me then them. I am so conflicted about them sharing, but they were very excited.
I'm hoping for a good night and trying to be patient. I'll update soon. Good night.

20 Week Sonogram - The big event
From the moment I am pregnant, the milestone that gets me through the first trimester sickness is looking forward to the 20 week ultrasound where I get to see the baby, know it's healthy, and discover if I'm having a son or daughter!
I am so blessed to have a wonderful son and daughter. I did not care if this was a boy or girl; my prayer was for and continues to be for health!
Dec 11th was the big day for my youngest child. We arrived on time and started the sonogram around 3pm. At first, I was worried because this little peanut was just lying there completely still. I've never watched one of my kids do that. They have always been bouncing around. Right away we hear the heart rate and was told she's fine. We continued to watch as our baby's heart, head, and other body parts were measured and counted! It was perfect! Although, the baby wanted to stay curled into a ball. We had a to move me around a lot to try to see baby's heart, and to try to get a peak to determine the sex.
Eventually, about half an hour into it, Miss Hillary announced that we were having a daughter! I wasn't surprised one bit. This is the first time I really knew what I was having. I was thrilled and I couldn't wait to tell Ellie as I knew she wanted a sister so bad!
This little peanut also tried hard to hide her face as we tried to get her photo on the 3 d image, but we have a few shots. She's a cutie. I'm so happy and excited to know I have another daughter coming. Now, let the planning and preparations begin!
Telling Ellie she was having a sister was the other highlight of my day. Ellie was so happy, she jumped up and screamed, then jumped into my lap and gave me the biggest hug ever! She held on tight for a good 30 seconds. That's a big hug from my Ellie Bean! I wish my girls a life time of a special sister friendship!

The Baby
Today Max was very interested in the baby. This morning at breakfast he asked me to come over so he could talk to the baby. He was so sweet as he said hello.
Tonight, going to bed, he decided we should sing to the baby. He picked Ba Ba Black Sheep. He turned his head to my belly and sang so sweetly!

Sticks!
Tonight Max had another BM on the potty. They don't happen frequently. When he got off the potty to admire his work, he screamed, "Sticks in my poo-pie! Grampa, come see my sticks!"
LOL, he was so proud!
Grampa walked away into the other room.
Max just jumped around the bathroom celebrating his success and awaiting the arrival of his chocolate rocks!

Big Sonogram Coming
Tuesday is the big sonogram for baby number 3. I'm so excited to find out if it's a boy or girl and see my little one on the monitor, and most importantly, get a perfect health report!
It does seem like this pregnancy, though painful, is flying by. It's hard to believe I'm nearly half way there. I have started to feel the little early flutters and kicks a couple times and it is wonderful. I believe this baby is a very strong baby, thanks to all the extra drama (longer sickness, headaches, stronger back pains, etc) I've been feeling. But, as long as it gets me my healthy little baby at the end, I'm game.
I was laying in bed an hour ago thinking about names again. This is something I do more often then David for sure. I thought at this mid-point I would document my favorite names for both Boy and Girl, just to preserve the fun that I was thinking of names for both sexes, since that fun will be cut in half on Tuesday (hopefullly).
So, the top runners in my mind are:
Margaret Vonita Cummings - called Meg
Drew Robert Cummings - called Drew
David still prefers the classics, and by classics I mean the names we've talked about on other pregnancies that haven't made it, but to me, those have early been retired - James, Hannah and Clair.
Recently, I've believed strongly this is a girl because of the way I am physically carrying her. In the early months, I was sure it was a boy thanks to the strong sickness. So, it could still go either way for sure. In that, I asked David to think of girl names and he has thrown two new ones into the mix for consideration - Zooey and Chloey. I'm not sure either of them passes my one day CEO test, but Zooey feels closer to me as a possibility. However, I still stick with Meg and Drew!
Stay tuned.....

A Christmas Tree
We set out with the thought of cutting down our own Christmas Tree this year for the first time in a few years. After listening to Max wine upon being put in the baby ergo and demand to be held, we decided to go with a pre-cut tree at the front of the farm. David and I were looking around and trying to eye up an appropriate tree. It was a bit of a stretch because our size goal was around 7 to 9 feet. The selection was either 5 to 6 foot trees or 12 to 14 foot (or even higher trees). When David first stood up one of the big trees to look at, Ellie got so excited about it's size. We both knew it was a bit big and may prove challenging; I was worried about getting it into the stand; David was worried about it fitting in the house.
I proceeded to look through the smaller trees desperately trying to identify something in the medium price range. Ellie pronouced a bit of a fit, "I do NOT want a little tree. I WANT THE BIG TREE Daddy already picked up!"
I could not help but laugh as she sounded just like me as a child. I remember fits about the size of the tree many years. I just looked at Ellie and said, "You are just like your mother."
After much deliberation, we agreed to the very large nearly 13 or 14 foot tree, with the plan to cut off the bottom foot and a half where the trunk looked too big and fat for our stand. Then we purchased it and brought it home.
Upon getting it home is where the real struggle started. David and I spent over an hour trying to get it in the stand. The poor thing was butchered and ended up loosing nearly another 2 feet before properly standing in the tree stand. During this time both kids hit tears because they couldn't help decorate the tree. Max even pulled out his tools and watched to help Daddy with cutting the tree and getting it "fixed." He's sweet, but it was dangerous and eventually I ban them from the room.
Nearly 2 hours after we got home, dinner done in shifts, Ellie and I finally put the lights on. She was a great helper. Of course, Max wanted to help too, and it's not really a three man job, but we tried to include him best we could.
Lights strung with minimal drama, it was time for Daddy to put the angle on top. That too went down without much drama, thanks to his willingness to just get the ladder and get it done. Then, it was on to decorating.
Ellie and Max were both psyched to get to this part. Turn out, Ellie was off to the races and did a pretty good job this year. Previous years had been hard for her. Poor Max, he couldn't get the hooks to work in his little finger and was too frustrated to allow me to help. He put two ornaments on the tree (and by he, I mean with my help over a 15 minute period) before finally ending the drama. We decided to do bath and bed. Then Ellie sneaked back down and played elf with Mommy to help me finish the job. Ellie was a trooper. Once she understood that if she wined another syllable she was going to bed, we had a peaceful 30 minutes of tree decorating. She really did a great job!
I was so tired at the end of the night that I didn't finish the final trimmings. Those still need to go on, probably not until tonight. But we do have a standing, fresh, beautiful tree 17 days before Christmas, which to me, is the perfect lead time!

Max Grumpy
This evening Max and I were looking at the new photo album I had made. He sees a picture of himself eating ice cream with a bit of a look on his face. He points at it and announces, "Max Grumpy."
I couldn't help but smile. I'm glad he sees that emotion on his face. He gets that grumpy, disappointed look quite easily. He will also quickly turn to smiles too. It's part of his little Gemini self I think.
I asked him why he was grumpy while eating ice cream, he seemed perplexed himself. The funny thing was that as we proceeded to look at the next few pages, they all had a picture of Max Grumpy. Who knows what was going on in April.

Shared art project
Ellie got a foam gingerbread house kit for her birthday from the Govars. She was excited to put it together. After dinner her and I started working on it. Max decided he wanted to help.
Ellie was very gracious in allowing him to help. Max was patient with constant correction of where he tried to put stickers. The project took over an hour to complete and both kids really did a good job. Ellie was a little frustrated at times when Max didn't do it just perfect. (And I understand her frustration as sometimes I felt the same towards her :-) ) Like mother, like daughter. We both kept calm.
They were both so proud of their accomplishment. Once we cleaned up, they picked up the house together and said, "let's go find a place for our new decoration together." I let them go. A minute later I hear squeals of delight. They were so excited to show that they had placed it on the kitchen table together. Afterwards, they even did a bit of a happy dance as I called it, jumping around, laughing, smiling and commenting on how well they worked together!
What a great evening and team building activity tonight!

Santa 2012
Tonight both kids enjoyed waiting for Santa's arrival, saying hello, sitting on his lap, and even telling them what they'd like for Christmas. There were no tears! In fact, no tears from any of the cousins either. I think this was a first! It was a good evening.
Ellie rattled off a list of every princess movie and item she could think of as her wish list.
Max's wish list was more simple. He wants a camera. That's it!
Santa brought them each a dinosaur from the show they watch as Sarah's, Dinosaur Train. They were quite a hit with our kids and the others.

Sisterly love, and brotherly dissapointment
Tonight Max did his first full poop on the potty. He was very excited, mostly to flush.
Ellie too was very excited and ran to see it, as it was flushed away. Since she didn't make it in time, she proceeded to head to the stairs and sit there and cry. Crying, because she didn't get to see the poop before it went down the drain!

Spending time with Max
My son makes me smile many times each day, no matter how I'm feeling. The boy just loves laughing and if he can make someone laugh, he goes into repeat cycle. It's usually very funny!
Sometimes he says something mistakenly funny. He is not sure what it means, and I laugh out loud. Then, he will just repeat it and laugh at himself. I wish I could remember a good example, but I can not.
We went to the basement the other evening and Max decided we would dance. He started dancing and I started copying him. He loved it! He asked me to keep doing it over and over again for over 5 minutes, until I distracted him with something else. The whole time was about trying to get a good reaction out of me.
The bedtime routine provides Max lots of opportunity to try to laugh and make more laughs. Even down to giving me a hug (he calls Squeezers). He withholds them for me to cry, the runs to me laughing and squeezes me tight. It's hilariousness.

Talking Crazy
Ellie's just turned 5. Here's the conversation/ argument we had as she was going upstairs for her bath tonight.
Me: Ellie, focus and go get your bath.
Ellie: Mommy, I found my beads in my hair.
Me: Ellie, stop arguing and go do as I requested.
Ellie: (With serious attitude) Mommy, I am, it's just you keep stopping me to tell me things and are talking crazy!
Me: Ellie, watch your tone and go get your bath now.
Why is this starting already?

I want to sit by Mommy
Everytime we go out to eat Ellie makes a big deal about sitting next to me, even when her cousins are around.
This trend was finally broken the other day when we had lunch with Ethan Govar. She wanted to sit by him! It was great!
She really enjoys playing with him.

Gaps
I have not been good at blogging my fun stories of the kids the past month. It's not that they haven't amused me greatly and made me smile regularly, because they do. The problem is my wrist is acting up and typing is bad. Hopefully this dry spell won't last long, because I like keeping this journal to remember the fantastic amazing life of parenting Max and Ellie!

Ellie's Five
Ellie's fifth birthday fell on a Wednesday, just like the day she was born. It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I took the morning off and hung out with them. We had a donut and some time at the library. Otherwise, it was just a chilled out morning.
Ellie was very interested in knowing the moment she was five. She was disappointed she wasn't quite five when she woke up. I explained that we celebrated the whole birth - day, not just the birth moment.
She was most excited when I got her up from her nap and told her she was five!
We asked what she wanted to do for her birthday dinner. Her request was simple, dinner and playing at Aunt Katie's. So, when Aunt Katie heard that, she obliged Ellie. We spent a relaxing evening at their house having cheesy queasidilia and cake!
The kids played well together and Ellie had fun. I can't believe she's five already!

Thankful Turkey
Today at daycare Ellie made a turkey that has all the things she's thankful for written on the feathers. It was cute. It gave me the idea to do one for the family. We did this as part of family drawing time at the kitchen table. It was cute.
A week later...
and the kids still think Raamba will eat their toys if they are left of the floor! It's brillant! Cleanest week since Max could walk.

Time with Ellie
This morning I decided to let Ellie accompany me to the doctor's apt. She was really good as gold. Afterwards the doctor even said she's see her next time and that she barely knew she was there. I am proud of Ellie for being so grown up sometimes. Granted, she was playing the infamous cookie game on my phone, but none the less, she was well behaved.
After the doctors we went to the store to order her Birthday Cake for her big party next weekend. She was cute there. She was more interested in the pre-made cakes that were sitting in the fridge then selecting one to be baked. Immediate gratification still rules when you are four, nearly five!

Baby
Max regularly asks about having a baby in his belly. I don't want to crush him by saying he can't, so we just joke about it.
Tonight when getting dressed in his footy PJs, he asked again about having a baby in his belly. So I decided to zip spots up inside his PJs. He thought that was fantastic He ran around for at least a half hour repeatedly telling us all about his "Baby in my belly."

Sharing
Today at lunch I sat down at the table with two oranges. I intended to split them with the kids. I started peeling and sectioning them and laying some on Max's plate, since he was done lunch already. A few minutes later my little two year old says, "Good job sharing your oranges with me Mommy."
He was so sincere. I was proud. Someone is encouraging him and teaching him nice words sometimes.

I look like you!
This morning when I dropped Ellie off at daycare this morning, from the car with a smile on her face Ellie says, "I look most like you Mommy. Don't I?"
She made me smile and I told her yes, you do!

Ellie Drama
I have to admit, Ellie and I have been in a bit of a rough patch. She is so full of drama and I have no patience for it. I sure hope it improves. I fear it will be the downfall of the way she idolizes me. She clearly loves me so much and wants my approval. But she wants to do things her way, on her own time. She's 4 going on 5, and I can't always let things happen at her pace. Actually, in our busy life, I can't let things happen at her pace most of the time. She always wants more time for things and when I move her along, she gets so mad at me.
I want to have a good relationship with Ellie forever. I fear the tough times to come. I love my Ellie Bean so very much, and I find the drama so hard to handle. Hopefully we find a way through this that's amicable in the end.

Max's personality is shining
Max's personality is really coming to light. He loves to make people laugh. He loves music. And, he generally just likes to have a smile on his face. I think he's the most handsome little boy ever, but then again, every mom thinks that about her children, as she should. So, I love when I'm out in public and people stop me to tell me how precious he is. It happens quite often really. Tonight at dinner a different person came by the take just to tell me how gorgeous he was. He was sitting there beside David in his little blue button up shirt with his new spike hair just smiling away, dancing to the music and enjoying eating some fries with his Daddy. A lovely little imagine in my head!

Disappointing Mommy
One good thing, my kids don't like to disappoint me.
Tonight we couldn't find Max. I was calling him a bit frantically when I heard a little voice and saw him sitting in the back of Ellie's princess castle with his blankey bear. I sit down to find him and look in. What do I see, a clown face. He had grabbed Ellie's chapstick and put it on - all OVER his face.
I just looked at him and gave him a bit of a dismayed looked. I said, "Maxxxx."
Max's little face turns quickly to a break down, tears start, and he screams "Mommmmmyyyyyyy."
I felt bad for him, but was also happy he didn't want me upset. I decided in that moment, not to smile, although I wanted too. I picked him up and held him. I told him it was okay. I wasn't made. He just needed to remember not to take things that wasn't his. I cleaned him up and cuddled him and we moved on with the night.
He's such a cutie!

The excitement of i Ramba
I finally decided to order the automatic crumb vacuum - i Ramba. I'm not sure who is most excited by it's arrival - me or Max. Friday afternoon I set it on it's merry way to clean up, then went up to get Max from his nap. When I saw him I told him we had a new vacuum downstairs and asked him if he wanted to go see it. His face lit up like a light bulb. He couldn't wait to go downstairs.
When we got down there we pretty much all stood around and watched it make it's crazy circles and zigzags. I was able to convince them toys have to stay off the floor or it will eat them. So, they manically cleaned.
It was great fun.
When we got home Friday night and Ramba had docked after completing it's sweep, apparently Max didn't like that. He tried pushing buttons and quickly called to Daddy when it started wiggling around and making noised.

Ellie hugs and love
Ellie's not a snugly, touchy feely. She doesn't like lots of snuggles either. But over the past few days, there have been a few random moments where she's just crawled into my lap and given me the best hugs. They make all the arguments we've been having worth it.
First, we were playing the Princess Matching game. Usually one wins and the other loses. I've been trying to help her understand that's okay. Well, yesterday, we tied. That was the perfect outcome to her. She jumped across the board and into my lap and give me the biggest hug and kiss. She was thrilled that we tied and could both win! It was adorable.
Tonight, when I was putting her to bed, (usually she lies on her pillow and enjoys prayers and songs) she laid on my lap for prayers and then before songs started and crawled into my lap and just laid her head on my shoulders. She snuggled with me like my little baby girl while I sang her song. Tonight's choice was Silent Night. I enjoy these special moments. I love my Ellie Bean!

Playing with Baby
I enjoy talking to Max about the baby that's coming. He's sweet about it. He clearly wants a baby. He will tell you that regularly. He loves certain babies especially - Colby, Ben and Scarlett.
Tonight we were playing around before bedtime. I told him he could snuggle the baby (aka Me). He looked at me. Then he decided to lay spots on my belly and say the baby could hold Spots! (Spots - his favorite all time blankey bear.) It was adorable. Baby got to hold spots for nearly 5 minutes - even babysit while Max went to get his teeth brushed.
I asked Max if he wanted a baby brother. He said No. I then asked if he wanted a baby sister. He said No. I said what do you want. He said, "A baby!"

Sleepover in the basement
We decided to sleep in the basement tonight, just in case there are trees that fall. I will sleep better knowing we are further from a tree getting to us. We told the kids we may do this and they seemed on board, even excited. So, as we set things up in the basement, making beds, transporting blanky bears and books, the kids seemed almost giddy.
I was skeptical they'd lay down and go to sleep. Max especially kept asking David and I if we would stay and sleep with him. We both explained multiple times Daddy would be down to sleep on the couch beside him later tonight. For now, he was to go to sleep. We followed the normal bedtime rituals and they laid down and went to sleep. They are like little angles! I can not believe they just went to sleep, just like we asked.
Hoping for the same luck and good behavior the rest of the night.
Update - the kids slept perfectly in the basement. In fact, Max wanted to do it again. He kept asking about sleeping in his new Big Bed! (The couch)

Nose
Max has his second cold in a month. I hate cold season.
Today, the most popular phrase heard echoing throughout our house today was "Nose." This was shouted by Max throughout the day. He shouted when his nose was running and he wanted it wiped I find this totally understandable. Who wants a cold and who wants snot running down their face.
I told David, he's probably thinking something more like - why can't you guys fix this Nose!

Painting
While we were away, Hazel introduced Max to painting on the Easel. He just loves it! He has patience to stand there for an hour and paint. Last night, after watching him try to pretend to paint the house for the past week, I decided to set up his easel with his paints. It was so cute to watch. I ended up just sitting beside him and watching him paint. Partially I was scared he start painting the house, but partially it was just my son's cute little voice who said, "Sit with me Mommy" when he thought I was going to walk away.
I hung out with him while he painted for nearly an hour. Sometimes he stood; sometimes he used my lap as a stool; sometimes he asked me to paint too. He was so happy and energetic painting! It was fantastic!
Ellie also decided to paint. I haven't let her use the easel in over a year. It's amazing to see how formed her paintings are now a days. She wants the paints neat and she doesn't want the colors mixed. Every painting is clear with lines and a purpose. She too enjoy her arts!

Sweet morning play together
The kids really don't get many options in a week to just go straight from the breakfast table to playing in our house. I am usually rushing them for one reason or another. The irony is, this really is their best time of day to play together. I love when they do get this time. They can play together or even independently and constructively for at least a half hour or longer, usually without any fighting. It is sweet.

A good sunday
Today was a long day and a busy day. I rarely let the kids miss naps - partially because they need them and partially because I need them.
This morning the whole family made it to church and Sunday school. We enjoyed a play with the church group and then came home to refuel and change clothes to head back into Frederick for the ALZ walk. We never accomplish those things as fast as I'd like to think we should, but none the less, we made it before the walk started.
The whole family has attended the walk most years. This year was very special to Mom after losing Gramma so recently. It's a 3 mile walk around Frederick and today was absolutely the perfect fall day for it. My back's been bad, so David, Max and I had a shorter route and a play at the park. I watched the boys run and enjoy the nice fall day, while taking some beautiful fall photos as well. After the park, we had a leisurely stroll back to the finish line that included a snack at Starbucks. Max sat on my lap and we shared a few snacks. It was nice.
The whole family ended the evening with a nice long dinner table full of children at the local Mexican restaraunt. The kids all did really well and it was nice to see everyone. I enjoy spending the time with the family and seeing everyone together. Even though we are all fairly local, life is so busy that I don't feel we get to do these things enough. I'm glad we had a nice day.
Now, the kids are outside enjoying the sunset and some play in the backyard with David. I'm getting a chance to ice my back and enjoy that they are just outside having fun. Daddy has convinced Max to help him collect the leaves. Max would do anything for Daddy!

Little Miss Ellie Grey
Ellie is really getting good with numbers. She's interested in learning how to add things now. She asks a couple math problems daily. I'm impressed with her interest and the ability to catch on to how to count - at least with the totals below 10 where she can use her fingers!
Sense of humor
We had donuts without Daddy and sent him a photo. David texts back, "Where's mine?" As I read it to the kids, Max responds without skipping a beat, "I ate it. Daddy no get donut."
First haircut without tears
Today David took Max for another haircut. It has been many months since this last public haircut. He has made it through two at home cuts with Mommy. We were wondering if that would make this experience better.
As I hear, Max sat stoically on David's lap and looked nervously ahead throughout the entire time. The stylist apparently said he was the best kid she'd had all day. She asked if he smiled; he did not while this was happening. Instead, he sat, still.
When it was all over, the lady said, "All done." Max looked at Daddy and said, "Daddy, all done." David says, "Yes Max." Then Max let out a big smile!

Compliments
Getting compliments on your kids from strangers has to be one of the highlights of parenting. It's great affirmation of a job you are doing somewhat right, or at least sometimes right.
The highlight was when I was leaving she said, "Your kids are so well behaved." I thanked her. She responded with, "They really are not all like that."
Last night we popped into a store to get the kids fitted for bike helmets. The young lady that helped us was wonderful. She knew just what to do for the kids, she was quick, and she was kind and gentle with the kids. We left with 2 new well fitted, well priced helmets in about 5 minutes of less.

I was proud! They were being pretty good in the store. I am glad that at least at ages 4 and 2, they respect us enough to listen - especially when we are out in public.

Fall Fun
This Sunday afternoon we decided to take the kids for the fall trip to the Pumpkin Patch. It was a great family afternoon. The kids were cute as buttons with their sun glasses and sweatshirts tied around their wastes.
The slides were lots of fun for all. Both kids love them. There was so much to do, it was easy to move the kids between everything. There were several mazes, including a corn maze. Ellie was into doing all the mazes. There were several animals too - Max enjoyed seeing them this year. We got to see lots of bunnies and chickens. The Alpaca were interesting too.
The hit for Max had to be the water table items. There was a big water barrel and a long slide that was about 40 feet or more long. There were little baby ducks the kids could take and drop into the water stream. Max squealed with delight doing this. He stayed and played for 10 minutes. I had to move him along because he was getting wet all over. There was also a second water feature - the old fashion water pumps. Those were a big hit with both Ellie and Max. Ellie was fascinated with them last year and this year. I think they like being able to control the water.
Ellie was very proud she could pedal the big kid bikes this year! And Max loved the new feature of the rock box where they could play in and dig around in rocks. He could have hung out there for a long time. There were seats for David and I there, so I have to admit we chilled out there a while.
We topped the night off selecting some pumpkins from the Market. Ellie also wanted some cool gourds just like last year. (That's my girl!)

Weekend away
This weekend David and I took our annual trip away while Hazel was in town to watch the kids. This time we actually went for 3 nights and 3.5 days. I knew it was good to take advantage of the opportunity Hazel so graciously offers. And, I knew I would miss the kids.
The weekend was nice. I was a little physically challenged by my back problems, but otherwise, we really enjoyed the city - food, my new favorite show Once, a friend's wedding, and just the energy of wondering our favorite city together. I still love NYC and would love to live there - if we could afford a brownstone on the upper west side.
The one reason to leave and return home that makes it all worth it is Max and Ellie. I was ready to come home and see them and hug them. We talked on facetime while away, but it's just not the same. The kids find it hard to concentrate and are bouncing off the walls as they enjoy seeing themselves in the screen.
Homecoming was great - Ellie gave me the biggest hug and didn't let go for a few minutes. Max was a little slower to come around, but once he did, you could tell he was happy to see us - especially Daddy. He sure is Daddy's boy.
They enjoyed the presents we bought them and I believe they also had a great time with Grannie and Millar while we were gone. It was definitely a successful weekend away. Although I missed the kids, it was refreshing to only worry about caring for myself for a few days. That was what the doctor ordered this month.

Well that's unacceptable
I had been dreading telling Ellie about my trip to NYC with David. I knew she was going to have a fit. Tonight I bit the bullet and told her. I had been hinting at it. When I told her, her response was "Well, that's just unacceptable!"
My little mini me is just too funny!

Do Dat Adin
Max is really starting to talk a lot. Sometimes we even get full sentences. He loves to repeat new words and he really wants us to understand what he says. It's fantastic seeing his language come alive.
As this happens, there are a couple things that are just too cute. I love his accents, or missed pronounced letters. One of my favorite Max sayings right now is "Do dat adin!" It's usually said with gusto and excitement as he wants someone to do something fun and entertaining again - such as chase him, ticket him, or mimic something. Often there's laughing involved. It is really too cute!

Telling Time
I've been working with Ellie to understand what different numbers on the clock mean. She clearly understands what the nap time and bedtime start and end times are.
Apparently Grannie tried to put them down for nap about 30 minutes early one day. Ellie got ready and then when she went to get in bed, she looked at the clock. She proceeded to march into Max's room and told Grannie, "I do NOT like the numbers on that clock Grannie."
Busted!

My little dancer
Ellie's dance classes have started back up. She's been mildly interested. Her class is small and we've been on and off. I'm hoping she'll get excited, but also, if she isn't, I'm happy to let it go.
Max on the other hand can not stop dancing around the house. He has several musical instruments that he walks around dancing too. He loves watching Ellie dance and is so ready for his dancing anytime. I think he should try dance, but David doesn't think so. We'll see how things go. I need to get him into something.

Max's new morning ritual
Grannie's been here with Max since the 18th. Each morning now, if Daddy's at work, Max can't wait to leave the upstairs and go down for find Grannie. He greets her with such anticipation. He's so happy she's here.
How was your playdate Ellie?
Today Ellie and Grannie met McKenna for a well anticipated playdate while I was at work. When I got home I asked her how it went. Ellie responds, "McKenna had prettier clothes on then me."
Oh my gosh! What am I going to do with this girl!
I did try to explain to her clothes don't matter it's about having fun with the person. I'm not really convinced she heard me.

Meeting the princesses
Today was a big day for Ellie. She has been in love with princesses since before she knew they existed. Today, we started the day by visiting Disney's Magic Kingdom and having breakfast in the castle with Cinderella and several other princesses. Ellie was so excited about this day. She could hardly wait.
When we woke up this morning at 6:45 and it was still dark outside, the first thing she said to me was "Mommy, I'm so excited becuase today is the day that we meet the princesses!" It was so cute. She was up and dressed and ready quickly. Then she kept asking when we could leave.
We arrived at the park and slowly drifted towards the castle on a ferry. The anticipation of my little "Belle" in her winter dress was well maintained. She was patient and excited.
The first princess we got to meet was Cinderella. She was the host of the breakfast. She met everyone downstairs and was very gracious and sweet as she welcomed every guest. She when we went to get our photo she even asked Ellie to show her dress and hold it out like hers. It was so cute. Ellie was so shy and quiet, but the look on her face was pure amazement and excitement. As long as I was holding her hand, she was fine. (I love that she still relies on me.)
Up the stairs we went and were seated for breakfast. We nibbled on pastries and stuff while waiting patiently for the princesses to make their way around the room. We were the end of the circulation, so Ellie had to be very patient. She was pretty good about it.
Ellie had made a drawing of Sleeping Beauty to give her. I wasn't sure how that would go becuase some of the princesses were more gracious and happy then others.
The first princess to the table was snow white. Ellie was a bit shy, but she got her autograph and a photo. She gave her a smile and Snow White moved along. Next came Belle. Ellie had pointed out that she was dressed in her 'work-a-day rags.' Ellie wanted me to ask her what happend to her ball gown. She said it was being cleaned. I was a little sad that Belle didn't realize Ellie was wearing her winter ball gown, but luckily Ellie didn't seem to notice.
The next princess was Ellie's favorite - Sleeping Beauty. She was great. She asked Ellie if she remembered in the story what two colors were considered for her dress. Ellie knew right away. I was proud! They spoke for about 3 or 4 minutes. I videoed a bit of it best I could. She was so kind to Ellie. She asked her to sign the picture Ellie had made for her. I'm so glad that Ellie felt like she played with Sleeping Beauty.
After it was all over Ellie said, "I want to play with the princesses Mommy." Later in the day she asked, "I want to go swimming with the princesses mommy." It was a princess kind of day! My little princess had a blast and said it was the best day of her whole life! That's big news!
We did do many other rides and Ellie enjoyed lots. She also got to experience her first rollercoaster with Gramma! It was a great day at the Magic Kindom!

We did do many other rides and Ellie enjoyed lots. She also got to experience her first rollercoaster with Gramma! It was a great day at the Magic Kindom!

Playing with Max
Max loves to play. He likes to run and just have my attention. Today we played down in the basement for about 30 minutes together before nap. He had me chase him, which is his favorite. He laughs so much when you get near him. Once you get him he falls to the ground and just laughs. His laugh is contagious and fantastic!
We also built a pretty big house. I was able to put him off knocking down the tower for about 10 minutes while we added every block to the tower. He was patient and tried to add some too. In the end, he had to work hard to knock it down because it was a pretty solid. Then we cleaned them up; well, I cleaned most of them up while Max played in the tunnel - laughing still.
He is so fun to hang out with. He's easy to entertain and so grateful for attention and a smile in return! My boy is the best!

Walks with Ellie
I have started trying to take one walk for 20-30 minutes a night as part of my back healing. Ellie has become determined to accompany me on them. I find this cute and I am so grateful for her company.
Tonight was the first time we just walked together on our own. As soon as we started up the hill, she grabbed my hand to hold it. It's so sweet that she still wants to hold my hand, as I love holding hers. We talked for a while. She was proud of seeing how far she was walking. She likes when we go into the woods.
As we turned the corner into the woods, I started singing a song I made up as we went to a common tune. Ellie joined right in. We took turns making up versus to the little song for a few minutes. It was cute.
We walked all the way around the neighborhood. Her hope was to see her friend McKenna. She wasn't there and Ellie was a bit dissapointed. I was able to turn her around by telling her that her new art line was up and we could go home and display some of her art work. She was happy enough with that.
She is so sweet. I love spending time with her and talking about things and listening to whats on her mind.

Max loves Daddy
Yes, this is a repeat theme. Max needs his Daddy something fierce. He can not wait for Daddy to hold him when he hasn't seen him for a while.
The other day we got home and David was outside working, Max was so excited. He stood beside him asking over and over, "Daddy, what doing?" He wanted to understand and help. I see a lot of helping in their futures!

Ellie's proclamation to protect her Mommy
I've been having lots of trouble with my back. Tonight when it was Ellie's bedtime, I was lying in her spare bed and felt I couldn't move. She looks at me and says so sweetly, "Mommy, tonight I got your phone and texted your work. I told them that you can not come back into the office until your back is all better!"
She's so sweet.
She's so sweet.
Dentist
Ellie had her second Dentist visit this week. She was good as gold!
We also took Max with us. He was really freaked out at first. But, after seeing Mommy get in the chair and not cry, and then Ellie, he was willing to sit beside Ellie while Dr. Hummers looked at her teeth. He even let them count his teeth. It was cute!
They were both happy to get their goodies - tooth brushes, stickers and tooth paste! Next time Max will have an official appointment. We'll see how that goes!

Caught out of bed
As I got out of the shower tonight, David was coming up the stairs because he heard one of the toys in the kids rooms making noise. It only took me a second to realize it likely meant Max had crawled out of bed to try his toys instead of sleeping.
David opened the door and we found Max sitting on the floor by his toys, hand in the basket, Spots on his lap. I looked at him and said "Max John Cummings you get back in that bed right now."
He stood up and quickly crawled into his bed, buried his head and began crying, "Mommy!" (Staring at me and mouth wide open crying loudly in his typical tantrum position and demeanor.)
Max really doesn't like me being upset with him. He also doesn't like being caught. I feel bad that he is sad, but I also needed to make sure he knew playing after bedtime isn't allowed. I told him I was mad and I loved him. I explained that when Mommy puts him in bed, he's to stay in bed and go to sleep. He gave him a hug.
His response while crying still, "Wrong way!" (Meaning he was upset that he was laying on his stomach as I tucked him in because I always put him to sleep on his back.) I laughed and told him that he could roll over. I then tucked him back into bed and told him night night. I love him so much!
He settled down and went to sleep pretty quickly. I wonder if he learned from this or not. Time will tell.

Face First
This evening we went down to the park and Ellie was trying to perfect her trick - jumping to grab on to the monkey bars. Usually she does this on the 2nd ring, today she was focused on the third. She was very proud she had done it several times in a row. All of the sudden, she missed once and fell face first.
Poor thing, was scared and started crying instantly. Her face was scratched up pretty bad. We held her and gave her hugs to help her calm down. She pulled herself together pretty quickly and walked home. We were enjoying the walk home and even watching butterflies. She remembered the pain and the red marks were starting to come through on her face.
She was distracted from the fall by the visit of her friend for about 15 minutes. She was a very tough girl. I'm proud of her. She did say tonight she would NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. I encouraged her not to say never, but to think about how she can have fun and be brave and assure she falls on her feet.
I looked at her in the mirror tonight as we were putting medicine on her and getting her teeth brushed. This is definitely the first time my little girl has really had bumps and cuts show through on her beautiful face. I think her and I were probably thinking the same thing. No doubt she'll heal very quickly.

Ellie and Lady Grey
Over the past 4 to 6 months, Ellie and Lady Grey have come to an agreement. Lady Grey allows Ellie to pet her, if Ellie is slow and quiet and calm as she approaches. It's quite cute really.
I think it's great for both of them. Lady Grey gets someone new to pet her; Ellie learns to be gentle with animals.
Lady Grey still hides most of the day; she rarely lets Max see her. But Ellie and Lady Grey are now, sometimes, friends.

My Helper
Ellie really is a good helper. Today Ellie decided to come grocery shopping with me. She was good company. She helped me find things, she held coupons, she excitedly helped load things onto the belt for checkout. I was glad to have her along for the ride.
I have found that Ellie is so excited to do something positive for me. I do appreciate her eagerness and I hope that it's enough for her. Sarah mentioned to me a while ago that it's so obvious Ellie's aim is to please me and get my approval. I honestly hadn't seen it as clearly as she had, which may make me a bad mom.
I need to find a way to help her know how much I appreciate her and help her feel like the grown up little girl she wants to be.

Great Grandma
Max and I were at the piano the other day. Max looked up and pointed to the picture of Great Grandma, Great Grandpa and Gramma and said, "Great Grandma." I said yes, that's right Max, that's Great Grandma. She is my Grandma. I know he will never know her really, but I'm glad he recognized the picture and knows she's important.
The passing of time is so hard for me. As I age, I am seeing that I need to accept aging and even changing responsibilities to come. I'm not really ready to grow up like this, but I guess I have no choice.

Max and Uncle Danny
Tonight we were hanging out downstairs and Max crawled up on Danny's lap. Danny started giving Max all kind of life advice - Don't do crack, Stay away from Women, It's okay to put your hands in your pants, etc.... lovely things. Max just starred intently at Danny listening. I think he thought he had to stay there. They talked for a while, Max doing most of the listening. Then, I ended up putting on a movie. Max snuggled into Danny and laid with him for at least 45 minutes. Honestly, I've never seen Max sit still that long before. It was really cute. They were even matching in blue shirts and tan shorts. I should have gotten a photo, but I didn't have my phone downstairs. It was really cute to see though.

Visit to the Trains Museum
This morning we finally decided to take the kids to check our Frederick's one and only Model Train Museum. We spent about 45 minutes in there looking at everything. They kids were mildly amused. Max liked when he could push the buttons and make something happen.
After the train museum we went across the street to have a bakery street. When we sat down Ellie said something like, "Mommy, the train museum was pretty boring." I had to LOL. We decided the train museum would be perfect fora 7 or 8 year old boy who wants to do the scavenger hunt! There were a lot of things to look for and areas to explore.
It was a relaxing morning. The most fun was probably had at the local park! The kids are both able to run freely and enjoy climbing and even the spinner!

Big boy bed
Last night we took a leap of faith; we took one of the sides of Max's crib off and replaced it with a little rail to allow him to crawl in and out himself. This was triggered because my back is in such bad shape, sometimes picking Max up can cause me to nearly fall over these days.
Max and Ellie were both excited about the new access. Max was excited to crawl into his bed after songs. He was proud of being able to do it himself.
I explained he needed to stay in his bed until Mommy gets him up in the morning. I wondered if he would (remembering that Ellie did, but people told me kids usually don't).
I came downstairs and we listened to Max. He did his normal babbling and talking for about 30 minutes, but he fell asleep in his bed like a good boy. I don't think he ever tried to get out. When I checked on him before I went to sleep he was curled up on his pillow with his blankies in the middle of his bed just like an angle!
In the morning I let him talk for a few minutes and went in to find him. He was in his bed long enough to poop, but he didn't get out of bed. He waited for me just like I asked! I was so proud of him!

Erika's first day of school
This morning I took the kids over to watch Erika get on the bus for her first day of kindergarten. It was a big family affair and Erika was happy to see us there .We got there just about 5 minutes before the bus. I'm so glad we were able to be there. I talked to Erika this evening and it sounds like she had a great day. She was full of energy and excitement about her day. Tomorrow they have the full class and she's excited about that too!
Once Erika's bus pulled away, I went back to talk with Granddaddy and Max. Max was looking off in the distance, in the direction of Erika's bus, and saying quizzically, "Erika?" I interpreted this to mean, "why did you all let Erika go away on that big yellow bus alone?" It was really cute. Granddaddy told him that he would get on a school bus and go to school soon. Max looked at me funny and then said, "Yeah." He was a little puzzled by it all. It was sweet though.
Ellie was also excited to see what happened. When we were in the car on the way to Ms. Sarah's, then the questions started about when she would go to school. She was excited thinking about her backpack and riding the bus with her friends in the neighborhood. All was well until I told her that she wouldn't need to pack a pullup because there are no naps in Kindergarten. This thought was too much to bare. Exasperated and nearly in tears Ellie says, "But Mommy, if I don't get a nap, then I will be cranky and tired. I will be tired every night."
Oh my goodness, she is too cute and worries too much. I tried not to laugh and to assure her she would be fine in a year. I told her that we would practice going without naps. She asked, "Are you going to make me stop sleeping at nighttime too?" My response, "No Ellie. You will always sleep at night just like Mommy and Daddy. Sometimes you will even sleep on the weekends like Mommy too." At that, she calmed down a bit. She was still worried about it tonight some though. She was not interested in learning all day; my girl wants to know she'll always get her naps!

Drums
Max is starting to show some more interest in the drums. The other day we took turns doing 30 second shows. Max's turn; Mommy's turn!
Max has some talent for music. He can do the base and use both hands at the same time! It's fun seeing him grow on this.

A trip to Disney for the Princess
Mom and I have planned a trip to Disney with Ellie and we have managed to keep it a secret from her for many months now. Today we decided to tell her and get her ready with a countdown chain. After nap Gramma came over the house. Ellie knew something was up and it would be a good thing.
We let David be the one to tell her since he's staying back to take care of Max. He said something like, "How would you like to go on a trip in an airplane with Gramma and mommy to see the Princesses at Disney in a few weeks."
Ellie's reaction was evenly matched in tone as the proposal, "yes."
I videoed and got not much reaction. It took a while for it all to sync in. It started when we told her about the special princess breakfast and she found out she could bring a fancy dress. That made her to a few jumps and grin a lot!
Gramma helped her build a countdown chain made of princess paper. Each morning she rips one off and when there are none left, we go the next day. We hung it in her room and she's really excited to tear her first one off in the morning.
By the time Gramma left, we could tell it was syncing in. We are all very excited.

Adult Church
This morning I managed to take both kids to church and sit through it, alone. Max was a bit antsy and climbing and needy, but we made it. Ellie was good as gold really. Her love of drawing makes sitting anywhere fairly easy. She draws, sings, and just really knows how to quietly entertain herself. For Max, coloring may have given me a total of three minutes throughout the service. We decided to do this because our friends from Wiggles and Worship were being Baptized and I wanted the kids to share in this with them. Ellie appreciated it mostly for the gorgeous white dresses they wore. Max liked knowing baby Scarlet was across the way, because he got to hold her last week.
Sick Mommy
Friday morning I was feeling so horrible, I couldn't even get the kids up. David got them up and dressed and was taking them to daycare. I was sitting in the dark in the living room listening to it all. Daddy did a great job. It was cute because they were a little worried about me. When they came downstairs they both rushed to give me hugs. Then they were quickly off to daycare.

Max's two year old run
Max is so cute in so many ways. I love him to bits.
I especially love to watch Max run these days. He brings his little arms up and tucks them in to his side, clenching his fists. Then he starts to move his arms back and forth before his little legs actually begin to move. Once he starts moving, his arms are clearly moving more distance then his legs. His smile is huge!
This evening he wanted to run the streets of Frederick as we were walking to and from the park. I was nervous about the cars, but I know we need to teach him how to walk the streets safely, so we gave it a whirl. Honestly, I think I allowed it because watching him run was just too adorable! I took a video, but it just doesn't capture the beauty of his little body learning to run.

Mommy, I can go to work with you
This morning Ellie tried to convince me that she could go to work with me. I asked her what she would do while I was in all my meetings. Her response, "Mommy, if you have the diaper bag, then I can just color."
I had to smile.
I do wish that she could come with me for a day. It would be great. But we aren't allowed to bring kids to Take Your Kids to Work Day until they are 7. Ellie really wants to come!

"Tum Up"
Tonight we went out to a family dinner. The kids got these little sippy cups with those bendable straws. Max was so excited to drink his water out of the cup. When he did it first, he said, "Tum Up. Tum Up." I smiled and said, "The water comes up the straw into your mouth." Max was so happy!
The cute thing was that he said it over and over again. We started counting and it was at least 30 different times. The novelty and excitement to him was so exciting!
It's great watching Max discover new things. It's also fun when he communicates and gets so happy when we understand him. This age is so precious.

Potty Training
I've been slowly introducing Max to the potty. He will repeatedly do a little be of pee each time put on the pot. Each day I give him at least one chance. He usually delivers and is getting more and more interested in going.
Tonight after trying to potty. He gets off and I say, "Let's rinse your hands Max."
What does Max do? He turned around and nearly stuck his hand in the toilet to rinse! I responded with a quick, "No!" (Followed by more words I'm not so proud of - "you silly little twit." ) Whoops.
Max needs to learn to appreciate Mommy's opinion of where bodily fluids belong - in the potty only.
This follows an incident at nap-time today at Ms. Sarah's (which is the second time this has happened). During nap Max pooped and then decided to play with it - spread it all over himself, blanky bear and his crib. Apparently it was a disaster. I am surely not proud of this and have told him many times that was unacceptable. I hope this doesn't happen again.

Wash our hands
After trying to use the potty I told Max, "Let's give you hands a wash." He turns and goes to stick his hands in the toilet bowl to "wash" them. What on earth? I yelled something along he lines of "No Max, not in the potty, at the sink." Max just looked at me with a bit of a bewildered look, as if he was confused why the toilet wasn't a good place to wash our hands? Has he seen anyone else do this before?

A birthday party at a nature center
Today was a great family day. The whole family was invited to Sammy's Third Birthday Party at a new Nature Center in Middletown. The kids really had a blast. The teacher, Ms. Bee, who led the kids was fantastic. She worked so greatly with the kids and they were very interested. Even Max sat still for nearly an hour looking at animals and touching them (until the snakes).
First up with the Toad. They were all brave and enamored with holding it. Max was especially excited to hold a small creature. He was as sweet and gentle as he always is with little creatures. Second was the Turtle, which they also held, like a sandwich.
After lots of animals, riddles, jumping, parachutes and fun, they brought out the snakes! Needless to say, I wasn't happy at all. Max was also smart, he came back with us and was NOT at all interested in touching any of the snakes. Ellie, on the other hand, was titled something like, "Look at this little nature girl" by Ms. Bee. Seriously, I know it could be worse (With my logical mind) but my emotional mind was not really having this. At some point, I was near the snake (too near for me really) because I wanted to get a picture of Ellie holding it. I noticed I was on the head side of this 4.5 foot long rat snake. I tried to take faith that the women knew how to handle it, after all, I was letting Ellie touch it. As I checked where the thing was in between photos, I noticed it's mouth wide open and tongue coming out. I decided I was too close for comfort and walked away. A few minutes later Ms. Bee made some comment such as, this snake is a good snake and he doesn't open his mouth while we hold him. LOL I said. I just saw him with his mouth wide open!
Anyway, little nature girl was a bit to close for comfort to this thing. She was admiring it, and probably would've sat there for a while with it. Yuck! Some say I should be proud; I can only say I'm proud of her bravery and hopeful she is logical about her interactions with them as she grows. All I could think about was, who let this girl where a tank top dress!?!?
The lunch was perfect, the cake delicious, the kids had a fantastic day! And I bathed them as soon as we got home (from head to toe) before I let them go to sleep!

Ellie Meets Colby
Tonight we were able to meet up with Jerred and Vicki in Frederick at a restaraunt so Ellie could meet Colby. Although it wasn't exactly the greatest place for a 4 year old who wants to hold her new little cousin, she did give him smiles and kisses, and was able to hold him for a few seconds.
We had been together for over an hour. I had told Ellie we needed to find a seat so she could hold him. We went for ice cream and they were running about outside. After her ice cream was gone, she sits on the picnic bench and says, look mommy, i found a seat. I didn't even realize what she was asking. Then it dawned on me, she was telling me she had waited long enough and was ready to hold colby. She was sweet and happy to have him on her lap, even with me helping.
I know she's looking forward to a time where they can really snuggle up.

Ellie's questions
Ellie asks a lot of questions. She puts things together in her head and follows up with more questions.
Tonight, while having dinner with Aunt Katie, Erika and Amy, she asks, "If Granddaddy is your Daddy and Gramma is your Mommy, then why aren't they married?"
I was standing at the kitchen sink so I was silent for a minute. Katie responded quite matter of fact, "They were married once." That seemed to be enough for the time being, but I know there is more coming.

ABC's
Tonight after putting Max to bed, just before I walked out, Max says, "Mommy ABC's." I respond, "Max, do you want to sing me the ABCs." I'm somewhat joking because he's never done this before.
Max's response, "Yes. ABCDEFG....." He sang the whole thing, quite fast and matter of fact. And, if he missed a letter I'm not sure which one. I was so impressed!
I went over and smiled and told him how great a job he did and how proud I was. I asked him to sing them again, and his response, "No."
Silly little boy. He has been listening. Maybe soon he'll actually realize I'm not trying to poison him when I offer him the food David and I eat at dinner each night.

My little Man's counting
A couple days ago Max knocked a bunch of things down off the fridge. I asked him to pick them up. As he started picking them up I said, "One. Two." Max picked right up, "Three. Four. Five." and then real fast came, "Six Seven Eight Nine."
I was shocked. Suddenly something he's heard maybe a million times just came running out of his mouth. He can count. Or at least repeat the numbers in order. He counts to 9 because that's the number of diggers in his favorite book we've read a million times over the past year.
Time flies!

Max meets his little cousin Colby
Max is extremely gentle with little animals and babies. It is actually quite surprising to see a little boy so taken by babies. Max loves baby Benjamin at daycare. Ben is nearly 8 months old and when he joined daycare, I learned just how gentle Max's little sole is.
Since Vicki's third trimester I've been trying to explain to Max he had a little boy cousin coming. Colby was born a week ago and I was really anxious for Max to meet him. When Max first saw pictures of him last week he responded in a sweet little voice, "awe, tcute." I just knew he's be sweet.
Today was the opportunity to meet. Aunt Vicki sat Colby on Max while Max was lying in his stroller waking up. Max was so taken by him and so gentle. They just laid there snuggling. Max rubbed cheeks with Colby and just loved holding him. The smile below says it all.
Throughout the visit Max kept returning to Colby to give him a gentle rub on kiss. When he got to hold him for about five minutes at one point, Max just couldn't stop rubbing Colby's little fingers and arms all over him - his cheeks, his fingers. It was cute. It was nearly like watching a loving grandmother explore her newborn Grandchild. (Personally, I think Vonita gave her love of babies to Max during their special conversations 2 years ago.)
I'm so glad my little boy is so gentle. Colby and Max are going to have fun together throughout the years!

A day at the water park
I love going to Ocean Breeze water park. I think of it as the best water park ever. Much of this is of course due to the fact it is the first one I went to as a child and I have returned often. We were all excited about water park day. We were looking forward to the fun and the time with Jayne and Kylie who were able to join us. They are so good with the kids and Ellie really loved having them around. She would have liked for them to spend the whole week with us. When we weren't together Ellie was constantly asking where they were. Earlier in the week, she even asked if they were down on the beach just waiting for us :-)
We arrived early and the place was packed. It was a rush to get chairs and then begin the wait in the lines. The kids were really excited when they saw the big slides. Max kept repeating slide over and over again. The line for the first one took quite a while, and when they came down, they were both so excited! They definitely wanted more.
After their first slides, we weren't sure what big stuff they'd be able to do, so we headed to kiddie cove to explore. That place was a madhouse. Ellie was very good watching out for her little brother. I loved the way she tried to look after him and get him up to the pirates ship.
The kiddie slides were good fun, but a bit lower key then either would have preferred. Eventually Daddy took Ellie on several of the big slides while Mommy and Max took a turn in the lazy river. Ellie absolutely loved the big kid slides. Max and Mommy had a very relaxing time in the lazy river. We went around 3 times before finally getting out. Max just laid on top of me and nearly fell asleep. I even sang his songs to him as we went round and round. Sometimes he sat up to splash a bit, but then settled back in for a snuggle. I think this was the most relaxing 30 minutes of my vacation. My kids are growing up so fast and this quiet and fun stuff just seems to come in such small doses. Thanks for the relaxing time Maximilian!
I love this photo from below. I asked them to stand in front of the dolphin for a photo. Ellie has really started this thing where she likes to strike a pose. Max took note of this posing and after staring at what Ellie was doing for about a minute, he decided to strike his own pose! Love it!

Ellie's beach rituals
Ellie is now old enough to have memories from going to the beach in the past. So far, we have managed to make those good memories. I think her favorite memory is of building sand castles with Daddy and then knocking them over. David also has to bury her in the sand each day.
As soon as we arrived on the beach Tuesday afternoon, these rituals were in full effect. It's cute to watch Ellie recreate things she remembers. Ellie was more animated this year, which also eggs David on a bit. This year, Max even tried to get in on it.
David tried taking Ellie into the ocean a bit, and she was okay about it, but they didn't stay out long. Later in the week her and I spent some time jumping small waves near the edge of the water. For some reason she wasn't that interested in going out too far and I didn't really push it. Splashing about on the edge was fun enough, even when the dolphins were swimming 50 yards off shore.

Max loves the Pool and digging
The first morning waking up in the hotel was really exciting to the kids. Max walked around with his new big shoveling constantly shooting Dig Dig!
Ellie wanted out in the pool and Ocean with vigor!
We eventually made it to the Ocean after naps on Day 2. Max wasn't so thrilled with the Ocean, but he spent nearly an hour walking around with that new big shovel, picking up sand and dumping it. It was cute to watch. He was determined to master it like he'd seen Daddy around the house.
Max's favorite spot ended up being the pool. Over the week we watched him become braver and braver with jumping and even attempting a little swimming. He always asked to leave the beach and head to the pool. On each trip we spent a few minutes there, but we really didn't hang out in the pool for too long at any given time.
Max's favorite day at the pool was when after swimming, he got to sit on a chair and devour Mommy's chips that came with her dinner!

Summer Vacation - Va Beach - off to a bad start
We were planning to leave for the beach on Sunday morning, but that was postponed until Monday afternoon. We headed out to the beach after the funeral service and luncheon. Everyone was excited and we were looking forward to putting our feet in the ocean.
I can't say the evening turned out like we planned, but we made it down the beach by around 8pm. We were on the ocean front and even got a little swimming in that night.
I have to admit I don't think I taught the kids very good things that night. I had a run around with the hotel about our room and I just wasn't able to get over it. At one point Ellie said to me, "Mommy, this is a good room. I like this room." I had reserved a suite so that we could put the kids to bed. We also wanted a balcony. Instead we were i a 1 room normal room by the pool and couldn't see the ocean. David and I were both angry about it. Poor kids. We did finally get it sorted the following day, but the first day of vacation was lost to this issue. Luckily, the other 3 were very nice, even though short.
It was cute seeing them share a bed this first night. Ellie even wanted to snuggle Max!
